I savored the brussel sprouts and gourmet green beans at Thanksgiving. I enjoyed the Southern California sunshine on the beach with a friend. What I didn’t expect for my Thanksgiving weekend was that I would visit a hospice for the first time.
My friend Don who had been diagnosed with a fast moving terminal illness was dying quickly. I was afraid to go see him. How could I claim a part of something so personal? I would be right there alongside his grieving family. What would it be like?
Despite the fear, I went. It was beautiful to hold Don’s hand, and to meet his mom. I will never forget the open hearted love on her face.
Before we launch into the holiday fray, Don’s passing is a great reminder of the grander picture: Whether your clients get your holiday card in time or your daughter really likes her gift; whether enough people show up to your party or you achieve each 2009 goal, go easy my friends. Go easy.
